What is under it decides how long it lasts.

Cut a core out of a good driveway and most of it is stone, not asphalt. That is the part you never see, and the part we will not skimp on.

Typical residential build-up. Every job is sized to its soil and its traffic.

A cut core cylinder: a painted stripe on the black surface, a thin dense top lift, a coarser binder lift, and a deep bed of gray crushed stone over brown soil.

    Fine mix rolled tight. The surface you see.

  2. Binder lift 2 in typical

    Coarser stone mix. Carries the wheel loads.

  3. Compacted gravel base 6 to 8 in typical

    Crushed stone. Drains water, holds flat through frost.

Hot mix has a season.

Hot mix goes down while the surface holds 50 degrees and rising, and around here that window runs roughly mid April through October. Call early in spring and get on the list.
